LO meeting Newbie for first time

We weren't sure how best to introduce our boys to each other for the first time.  I had taken LO to the hospital several times in the weeks preceding NB's due date to "show him the babies."  We hoped this would make the hospital more familiar to him and help with the concept of a baby coming from there.  LO seemed to enjoy going and even asked to in the few days before NB was born.  We had decided, however, not to have LO come to the hospital until the day I was discharged thinking that seeing us there, then having to leave me behind might be upsetting.  That was as far as the plan went, however.

The day of discharge, Nanny K came to the rescue again.  She packed LO's lunch (a hungry LO never makes any situation better) and, on our call, brought him to meet us.  We sent NB to the nursery so LO could just see me and check out my room.  The hospital staff was great to help us in this, waiting to officially go over my discharge paperwork until they had given us time to introduce the boys.  LO stopped by the nursery to see NB through the window, then seemed excited to see my room.  He liked the hospital bed (until I made it move), and enjoyed rocking on the chair.  Then, with a deep breath, we called for the nursery nurse (Desi) to bring NB to the room.  We have video of LO seeing NB at the nursery and in the room.  I will try to get that uploaded in the coming weeks.  For now, here are some pictures of the big reveal.  Overall, we think it went pretty well.  LO was definitely interested in NB, but wasn't sure if he should come home with us.  He did enjoy the car ride with him, and has had several very sweet moments with him since then.

LO shows more interest in NB now that there's no competition with his picnic.

  1. We have been visualizing this meeting and dying to know how it went. Thank you for taking the time to post a few pics and tell us the details. Precious beyond words. This is the outcome we have prayed for you and your family. All is well. Praise be to God.

  2. LO's looking like quite the big brother in these pix. I'm thinking that once LO realizes that there has been no impact on the meal plan, that sharing mom and dad has pluses to offset the minuses, and that having a built in buddy and teammate, he'll be "on board for the big win!". Thanks for this pix; we love 'em (the pix and the bros!).

    Love,
    DB
