Our super cautious big boy has done an excellent job with some new experiences lately! Last Wednesday was his first trip to the dentist. We read books about dentist visits and watched a video about the office for a few days before our visit. The office is beautiful and the staff did a really wonderful job making us feel welcome and catering to LO. Even staff member who were not part of our visit were very friendly and put him at ease. LO opened well for the "tickle brush" and enjoyed the sucker straw. He got to choose strawberry flavored toothpaste and kept sticking his tongue up to the brush to try to taste it. He let Ms. Lani "brush muscles" (fluoride) on his teeth, too. He did so well with the cleaning that he moved on to having x-rays taken. He was a little unsure about the cavernous x-ray area, so he sat on my lap. When our dentist finally came in, he opened wide right away. The dentist talked to me for about five minutes, then finally said "I should look at his teeth now; he's had his mouth open ever since I walked in the door!" LO had such a good time he wanted to know when we could go back again!
Today he had his three year check-up with Dr Hartmann. We roll played it a little for the past couple of days. I wasn't able to go with him because I was taking NB to another appointment, but DH reports that he did really well. He was a little anxious in some spots, but handled it like a big boy. It helped that we couldn't do his shots today, so there were no "ouchies" to get him through. His official three-year-old stats are: weight- 31 lbs (50%) height-37 1/2 inches (50%).
