An excellent Saturday

This past Saturday was an excellent day.  Back in August, LO and I had the chance to play for free at a local farm that does a corn maze every fall.  They were filming a commercial, and I happened to see their Facebook request for "talent" and responded right away.  It turned out that my little guy played best where the cameras weren't.  That was alright by me.  He remembered the place from last year, and we were a little sad that the corn pits were closed due to bugs in the corn.  I promised him we'd return when they were officially open for the season which would be "after his birthday."  Well, he hadn't  remembered that promise yet, but we still wanted to make good on it.  So, this past Saturday DH and LO went off to the farm.  The corn pit was back and still a favorite.  The big sand pile was a close second.  He also saw the cow milking demonstration, the other farm animals, rode in a buggy behind the pony and finally enjoyed the "jumping pillow."  (As an aside, imagine my joy when it became clear LO recognized the similarities between me and the heifer.  He told me she was "pumping" to get milk too. Sigh.) They stayed for FOUR hours!  They played hard and ate concession stand lunch (to my chagrin, but no outside food was allowed...once in a blue moon won't hurt, right?).

Morning corn pit play time

Huge sand pile, also had a large tunnel LO crawled through

Proud to have climbed that BIG hill. Check out the "jumping pillow" in the background. LO did that too!

John Deere play tractor, there were plenty of the real ones there too!

Water pump duck races, LO finally figured them out.  He made the duck go by himself.
DH and I had discussed various permutations of how to work the day.  We both really wanted me to take LO, but I needed to be home to nurse NB.  After a week at work, we needed to get back into that routine too. One option was me taking LO briefly, then returning home for NB and one of us taking LO back after nap.   The other option was DH to just take him.  Imagine my surprise when, after such a long time there, DH returned to tell me I'm taking him back after "nap!"  Nap time started a little late, then LO was too keyed up to sleep anyway.  About 3 pm, I finally talked through the monitor to tell him it was time to stop talking and go to sleep.  He did finally sleep for about 90 minutes.  Then back we went!  Another hour of scooping and dumping corn, then climbing and rolling in the sand.
Corn pit part two...new clothes, new chance to get dirty!
Back up the big sand hill

Getting ready to slide down the other side
The big kids were climbing up this tire and jumping off.  We had to settle for climbing through and jumping off the tunnel entrance.
Do you think he's had school/professional pictures lately? Check out the crossed feet.
"Sliding" down.
The weather was gorgeous the whole day, so DH and I really enjoyed being outside too. More importantly we were so very happy watching LO play hard and have so much fun.  We don't think we've seen him that happy and drama free for at least six months.  It truly was just the perfect combination of sleep, activity, weather, and company.  As an added bonus, our neighbors down the street came to our house (yes, I shamelessly knocked on their door to ask for this) to sit while the boys slept and DH and I returned to enjoy the corn maze in the dark and then have a date at Steak n Shake.

  1. LO's Great Grannie always said days like this were "making memories." Looks like you made a lot of good memories.
