We have maintained a zoo membership for a place about an hour from out home since LO was about 16 months old. Having a membership means we can scoot over to the zoo enjoy as much or as little as our moods allow, then trek home without concern for having "seen it all." Having the unusual work schedules we have allows us to enjoy off-peak times so we've been a bit spoiled that way. We tend to take the summer off, but schools are getting back in session around here, so DH and I decided to take advantage of an unusually pleasant August day and take the boys yesterday. NB has been to the zoo before, but this was the first time he has gotten really excited about the animals. (Perhaps a coincidence, but he's nearly 16 months himself.) We were really lucky that Nanny K and LO's buddy K (a la the playground kiss last summer) were able to meet us there. We didn't tell LO they would be joining us, and it was so cute to see how excited he was to see both his buddies. A very kind woman overheard the kids ask if they could ride the train. We had already fed the giraffes and goats, so I said we were out of money. She had three wristbands that allow unlimited access to all the extra kids activities in the park. She said they were finished with them and gave them to us. The kids and Nanny K then got to ride the train, the carousel twice, and feed the lorkeets. It was quite a treat to get to do all of those things we normally skip.
Here are some pics from our time together.

This makes me smile! LO is getting so big and it's adorable to see him running holding hands with K :) Can we attempt a zoo trip when I visit in a few weeks? I'd love to see NB's reactions (even though it's not his first time, it would be mine with him)
ReplyDeleteSounds and looks like great fun! Must have been quite the special surprise to have K and Nanny K there. Loved the K and LO pix especially. I'm guessing those will turn up again one day at oh, graduations and other special occasions for LO. Thanks for the posting!
