Mission (Im)possible
NB has put some serious time and energy into cruising today. LO and I have wondered if wearing fleece footie outfits has been hampering his gross motor progress since the knees slide on hardwoods and the feet get bunched up (they are a little too big). Today I let him wear a onesie and pants and maybe it was just a coincidence, but the boy seemed to really enjoy getting some traction on the floor. It was so cute to watch him! On several occasions he reminded me of Ethan Hunt from Mission Impossible. He cruised from his ottoman to his glider, then made a u-turn to his book slings, and, one time, to the window sill. Later he went from the outside of his crib to put one hand on the wall. He was interested in a red cup on the floor, but couldn't figure out how to get it. He also climbed all the way up the stairs tonight. It took him about five minutes, and he was noticeably fatigued about 2/3 of the way up, but he made it on his own. He was heavily encouraged by his big brother who ran back and forth from his bedroom to the stair landing to watch NB's progress. NB really seemed very excited with his accomplishment, laughing and bouncing excitedly every step or so. When he reached the top, he tried to stand up just holding onto the wall, but didn't quite have the balance and strength to do it. I have no doubt he will soon, though. He still stands with his bottom sticking way out and is very shaky in his stance, but he wants so badly to stand and (I think) walk, that his form will improve in no time.

I can just hear "Rocky" playing in the background as NB overcomes that top step! Congratulations baby boy; yet another obstacle comes crashing down.
ReplyDeleteBe patient though (like that's going to happen); it'll be a while before the car keys are available :-)
