Calling All Superheroes!

We had a superhero theme for LO's 5th birthday party.  He is allowed to invite one friend for every year he is old, but we actually stopped at inviting his three favorite buddies on the mountain.  One more school buddy and one soccer buddy were out of town, and we decided not to replace them with people we knew less well.  Nanny K and Aunt Cat came to the rescue (how fitting!) again this year and rocked out the superhero decor.  The weather was calling for possible rain, and outside was very wet from rain in the days leading up to the party, so we moved the shindig to the garage.  It was an unusual space for a kids' party, but it worked pretty well I think.  The boys had a fantastic time.  There is little else that I enjoy more right now than the site of boys in capes running around the yard.  LO has fallen in step so easily with these boys, and it is such a joy to see them explore together.  While the atmosphere was made by Nanny K and Aunt Cat, and I did pretty well with the menu and activities, it was truly the camaraderie of LO and his guests that made the party what it was.  Because of them, I look forward to future years and future parties, whatever the theme and level of detail.  I has over 500 pictures from the party, so it's hard to choose favorites.  Here are some of the contenders:

Our first two guests arrived and decided to go get the third.  Superheroes always look both ways before crossing the street, right?

...and back they arrived with the Hulk.  Nice job superheroes!

This city is surely safe with these fine heroes on the beat. 

First our heroes needed to strengthen their powers with a little lunch (very little, I've never seen boys turn down so much food)

Impromptu story time with Nanny K.  Aside from boys in capes, this might have been my favorite part of the party. 

While the heroes were eating, alien villains invaded the party space, we needed  our heroes to capture them all!

The the heroes showed off their super strength by throwing boulders and knocking over sky scrapers...

then they leapt tall buildings in a single bound

and creamed villains with silly spidey string

All that hard work meant some chocolate cupcakes were in order

even little brothers got some

These guys could not get enough of the balloons.  NB wouldn't rest until they were freed of their strings.

meanwhile, back at headquarters, the heroes plotted their next move...

Except this one kept watch for a while.
